I don't think I would remove the upper a arm with out removing the spring
first who knows where it will go. Hopefully not your face. You can use a 2x4
with a hole drilled through the middle of it, then pass a long threaded rod up
to where the shock goes. Then tighten the spring with nuts on either end of
the stud to compress the spring.
I would try a very good penetrating oil (let it sit for a day) on the lower
shock mounts then apply heat from a propane torch. Try loosening the lower
shock bolt first as this might relieve pressure from the mounts on either
side. By all means reattach the upper a arms!!!
I've attached a photo of the spring compressor I made up. It works quite
well. Used it again to switch out springs today after work.

69 TR6 now with Good Parts LOWERED springs, she sure looks a lot better than
the TFR up rated ones which are stated to retain the stock ride height. Yeah,
RIGHT!!!!!!
