Jimmy---I think the flat spots the buckeye site was referring to are the
ones ground into the fork casting. Supposedly to keep the front end of
the fork from running into the clutch fingers. Perhaps a carry-over from
an earlier design?
In any case, the new fork pins can be installed as-is. Or you can twist
the ones you have 90 deg. if they're tight enough to re-use.
There should be a small, "anti-spin" roll pin in the throwout bearing
carrier sleeve. It's purpose is to keep the carrier from spinning during
clutch operations. This pin missing is the main reason for flats wearing
in the fork pins.
Since the system is hydraulic, all play from worn internal clutch parts
is taken up thru a repositionng of the Slave Cylinder piston. There
should be no loss of motion during clutch operations. Think of this as
the way front brake pads wear down over usage. The operation of the
brakes doesn't change, as the pistons just move farther out to meet the
disc pads. So it is with what goes on inside of the SC.
