ween the joint from the make-shift strap.
I like the visualization of a good glass of wine while punching the TR horn.

After a lot of helpful input from many of you, I have a horn. Many Thanks.
The problem(s) turned out to be a combination of things mostly related to
disconnected wires, broken parts (horn brush contact) and a lack of ground
in the steering column.
The most perplexing problem was the ground. I was not getting any sign of
ground at the top of the steering column. There was good ground coming in
from the steering rack to the bottom of the steering column, but the ground
was (is) not passing through the lower universal joint. I have good ground
on the lower half of the universal, but nothing coming across to the top
half. None of the diagrams I've looked at show a ground strap running
between these two (as there is for the flexible coupling further up the
steering column in the engine bay).
To temporarily rectify the situation, I stripped the insulation off an 8
inch piece of copper wire and wound it around the end of each bolt that
holds each of the two halves of the universal joint together, and now I have
a ground all the way through the steering column. Once I tested that I had
ground, I got a glass of wine, hit the horn button, listened to that sweet
little horn and had a drink.
Is there meant to be a ground strap on this lower universal joint, or do I
just need to disassemble the unit and give it a good cleaning? I would
rather not keep my little make-shift wire strap on a permanent basis.
Thanks once again for all the help that many of you provided. It was a good
learning experience for my new LBC.
