Funny this should be the topic of discussion. Just got under the car
last night to find the cause of a squeak related to on/off power &
discovered a partial split in the passenger side front diff mount. Boy
am I happy. I guess I should have expected it because of power increases
and the original lacking design. Luckily I caught it before it snapped
or completely sheared.
I just called a welder with a lift that will allow me to do the
mechanical work & he'll jump in to do the repair including the
enforcement plates. I used this shop 30 years ago when this guys Dad
welded my first custom dual exhaust on my second TR6, a 71. I was in
High School. When I called & explained I needed a repair done on a
differential mount for an old British car, I was blown away when he
replied "is this a TR6 ? ". He was quite familiar with the repair & said
he knew exactly what to do including making the reinforcement plates. A
local shop wanted $225.00 just for the service call to come to my house
after I removed the exhaust & diff + time & labor.
