There have been some recent postings about vibration problems at 65mph or
thereabouts.
Mike,
I fought this problem for a long time awhile back, trying everything you've
tried with no success. I won't bore you with the details, but I'll tell you
what cured it. I removed the driveshaft, complete with the transmission and
differential driving flanges, and took the whole assembly to a drivetrain shop
here
in town. About 6 hours and $110 later, I retrieved the assembly, completely
rebuilt (I supplied the u-joints) and balanced. Re-installed it and viola! no
more vibration. It required the cutting off and replacement of one of the
driveshaft yokes because the u-joint bearing cup was spinning in the yoke,
which,
according to the guys at the shop, will cause vibration. They also welded a
small washer on the shaft for balance.
>From what I've heard since, $110 is a lot less than you'll pay most places,
but even double or triple that is worth it if it solves your problem. Before I
had it done, I couldn't drive over 67MPH without severe vibration; after, I
could drive up to 100MPH with no problem (I don't know what would happen over
100MPH, because I've never been able to go any faster than that).
btw, I did try Dick Taylor's trick to determine the problem was in the
drivetrain.
