No roll bar and I had lap belts but was not wearing them. I was in the 2nd
lane from the left (4 lanes wide going west), got hit hard enough that it
skidded right, I turned with the slide, skidded left, turned with the slide,
skidded right again and I turned it all the way to the lock and that was it -
I was along for the ride at that point. Hit the curb going sideways and
backwards, the top was down so it folded the windshield forward on the hood,
broke the trailing arm on the rear. I think it only rolled once but to be
honest it all happened so fast I don't remember. I was out of the car when
everything ended. The best part is that after I determined I was OK, I was
up walking around picking up all my sockets and other tools that flew out of
my tool box in the trunk. They were scattered all over and in 1980 were
probably worth more than the car. Several truckers were helping me find all
this stuff. The cops kept showing up and shining a flashlight in my car
asking "where's the guy that was in here?" I had to keep telling them I was
fine and would they please let me use their flashlight so I could find my
tools.
I totaled the 6, got payment from the insurance company, had another one
bought in less than a year, which is the '72 I have to this day. It's never
been wrecked and unless I get it reassembled it never will be, and hopefully
not then either. (I get the tub back from the painter in the next week or
so).
