I think maybe I jumped the gun with my answer to your electrical problem in
that at least one of the tabs sounds like it is for a ground wire.
Typically, the light bulb socket housing is connected to ground and the tit
on the end of the bulb is where the positive is routed. Look at the lamp
housing to trace the current paths the best you can.
