Fresh Engine Start-up Advice

List,
I know there is a lot of "voodoo" out there when it comes to starting up a 
newly rebuilt motor.  Is there a definitive word on this topic - especially 
when 
it comes to seating the rings - probably why I had to do a rebuild after such 
a short amount of time.
All advice appreciated.
