To the several of you who sent me suggestions for dealing with periodic engine
stutter, here is a report:
check points.I have pointless ignition.
distributor worn mechanically. Mine ok.
top off dashpots. ok
insulate fuel line and filter. Insulated filter.
needles and diaphrams. Mine ok
limited flow in fuel filter. Mine ok.
carb temp compensators. Mine changed a year ago.
plug wires. Resistance check at 4-6K and steady when twisted.
Finally, Dick Taylor suggested I change the dashpot oil to 20/50. I drained
all the old oil out and refilled as suggested.
Had a long run up the Blue Ridge Parkway today and the stutter was gone. Maybe
a hiccup or two, nothing more. For my problem, at least, I believe the heavier
dashpot oil did the trick. Thanks, Dick, and the rest of you.
