Listers:
When my car gets fully warmed up (after just a few minutes here in Miami this
time of year), I often notice that my steering feel gets just a little bit
"sticky." My mechanic has already replaced a part near the rack & pinion (some
sort of brace) with a new, metal part to better locate that part of the
steering system. It feels to me like the steering needs better lubrication.
I looked at the shop manual and it recommends lubrication of the upper ball
joints with grease, the lower steering swivels with oil, and the rack and
pinion itself with grease. I jacked up the car and noticed that there are
grease
fittings on both the upper ball joints and on the lower steering swivels.
1. How do I lubricate the lower steering swivels with oil? I have a
grease gun, but no "oil gun."
2. How do I lubricate the rack and pinion?
3. Is there something else I should look at? I sometimes see "trunion
oilers" advertised on Ebay. What are these?
Thanks.
