Oils advice

I'm FINALLY putting my 74 TR6 back together and need some advice on the
proper modern oils to use on a new (rebuilt) engine and transmission. I plan
on running synthetic after about a 9000 mile break-in but not sure on what
oil to use from day 1. Also I have been hearing bad things about Fram oil
filters (I have the spin-on converter). Any truth to them being a bit too
free-flow? 

Any advice is appreciated, including ideas on pre-lubing this engine prior
to firing it up. Shes been balanced, blueprinted, mildly ported and polished
and a slightly hotter cam installed. All done by a very reputable engine
shop here in CT.
