List,
I'm looking at a 70 TR6 project car. It's in boxes, everything is bagged
and tagged. The frame is off. The frame has been sandblasted and painted
-- new suspension bushings. There are repair patches welded on the
bottom of the trailing arms. From what I can see it is solid. There does
not appear to be damage under the cruciform, but I guess maybe you can't
tell unless you take it off? Looks to be a decent job of patching the
trailing arms -- one thick piece that covers most of the bottom of the
trailing arm. It has new trailing arm bushing brackets and bolts. Seems
solid -- sounds solid.
The rear fenders are still on. They are sound. Needs a new rear deck.
Rockers are gone. Floors look rusted through along the line where the
front floors bend up and go up behind the pedals -- so maybe new floors.
The rest seems pretty good. Some new parts are included -- one new front
fender, new front Valance, new rockers.
Questions:
I can't see any rust near the B post. Fender looks good, door jam
portion of the post looks good, can't see anything bad behind the fender
near the B post. Can I assume the B post is OK, or are there likely to
be hidden surprises there?
I've heard horror stories about replacing the Rear Deck. My guess is
that most of them need to be replaced or repaired anyway, and that this
one is no worse than most. How bad is this job of replacing the rear
deck anyway?
May need a new rear Valance -- it's not bad, but may be just as easy to
replace it???
What about the frame? The bottom trailing arm repair looks good, but is
it? Suppose there are holes in the frame under the cruciform. If the
cruciform is thicker than the frame material, how bad is it? The
cruciform seems very solid. Is it tricking me?
Thanks,
Don Malling
