Few items re: the Moss Motors article --
1. If you have a '76 you probably have a ballasted
coil.(?) My understanding is that you need 12V for the
Pertronix positive connection, and the ballasted coil
will only give 6-9V. You can measure the voltage on
the coil with a voltmeter and the key in the "run"
position. On my 74 with a ballasted coil, I ran the
red + wire to the fuse box on drivers side inner
fender. There is an empty terminal there that gives
12V.
2. In the Moss Motoring installation, they do not show
the cheeful guys securing the Pertronix wires inside
the distributor. In real life you need to take a very
small cable tie and secure the wires to the advance
plate, (while ensuring you are not preventing the
advance mechanism from rotating.) I plain forgot to do
this the first time, got two miles from home on the
test drive, and the Pertronix wire caught the rotor
and ripped it to pieces (fortunately the Pertronix
survived). Rather spectacular backfire that created.
And a long walk home to get a new rotor.
3. You will need to reset your timing after installing
the Pertronix. The Pertronix will likely cause a small
(~5 deg) shift in the timing vs. the points. You'd
probably need to do this anyway since your dist
rotated on you.
Hope this helps,
William
