I also have the same situation. I bought my '69 in 1999, and among the
things I had done to it was to replace the rubber seal around the front
window that had dry-rotted. I decided to have the glass replaced at the
same time, and it appears to have myriads of tiny bubbles embedded in the
glass. I think it has to do with the quality of the glass or the way it was
laminated (assuming it is laminated).
I could kick myself now, though in my defense (though I don't remember now)
it was probably because the original glass had been scratched by worn-out
windshield wipers.
