Several weeks ago I inquired as to a what anyone had experienced with
getting a six going that had been sitting a long time. Most responses were
toward carb work, rebuild, ect. I tuned the car up, began driving it some,
and it ran decent but not good after 2-300 hundred miles. Very, very cold
natured. I noticed the other day that the fuel pump was leaking pretty bad.
Pulled the dipstick and smelled the oil and it smelled like gasoline.
Ordered the rebuild kit, built it tonight, and have just come back from a
late night spin. What a difference! Oil pressure much better of course, but
now the car runs much better than my low mile car. Pulls stong to about
5800rpm, would'nt do 4800 before, and not cold natured at all. Maybe we look
at our carbs too quickly on these cars.
