Rod,
The HS6 will bolt up to the stock manifold. This is the carb most people
use. They can be had from several sources, including TR4A and older Volvo
B18 engines. If you use the Volvo carbs you'll need to use MGC bowls to get
the fuel level correct.
Joe Curto has all of the linkeages, fuel bowls, etc. you'll need. NFI, etc.

I used dual SU's on my car for about a year and was happy with the
performance as they ran smoother and stronger than the Strombergs. The
downside is the tendancy to leak fuel where the jet connects to the fuel
bowl. Fuel leaks over the exhaust manifold can spell trouble.
