Hi List:
I am getting ready to replace the bushes on my 71 TR6. Now I realize that
sounds rather vague, but other than urethane steering rack bushes, all the
bushes on the car are(I believe) original and in need of replacement. Never
having done this before, it gets confusing looking at different sources and
trying to figure out the best price/value/availability, etc. So I am turning
to the list for help.
Is there anyone who sells one kit that contains all the bushings that I would
need to replace on the car, or do I need to order different bushes sets
individually? Is there a particular source that is better quality or better
value for the same quality than others? Is there a list of all the different
bushes kits I should order somewhere so I don't miss an area? I want to make
sure I have all the parts I am going to need on hand. Anyone have any
experience or thoughts on "Magic Kit" from TRF? Is it a good idea to just
replace the lower trunions, upper ball joints and tie rod ends since I am going
to have everything apart anyways and it is unknown how long the current parts
have been in service?
I don't foresee the car being used for auto-cross or anything other than
spirited road driving. I believe that the urethane is the way to go for me
since the increased longevity, durability and suspension tightness are all
appealing, but I think nylatron would be overkill. I have seen the red bushes
from prothane. Does anyone have any experience with them? I have to admit
that I like the idea of red bushes being on the car, for no other reason than
esthetics. But I haven't seen any pictures of them installed. Does anyone
know of any links to see what they look like on a TR6. And, are there other
manufacturers out there making other colors?
Thanks in advance for all who would tackle the numerous questions. As is
usually the case, I am sure I have forgotten a question or two and also sure
response will generate many more questions.
Aaron
