After my bout with vandalism last August, I was waiting for the winter sales
to buy my new top. I ordered one from Moss, and it came last week. Since the
weather in Southern California has been in the 80s the past week or so, it
wasn't a big issue. I finally got off of my rear, and went looking for a top
shop to do the work. I found one about 2 miles away where the owner has
numerous old cars, such as Vettes and Mustangs. They were "topping" a 65
Caddy when I stopped by, so I knew that was the place to go. I was quoted a
price of $150, which seemed like a good deal. He even dropped me off at home,
and will pick me up tomorrow when it's complete.
Since I was pumped up on warm weather, and the good feeling of driving the
TR6, I decided to brave the registration process (I bought the car in June!).
I had been fearing the dreaded "smog check" required in California when
transferring ownership.
Much to my surprise, and that of the guy behind the counter at the AAA
(easier than the DMV), the smog test is no longer required of the 74 model
year!! Woohoo! My waiting had paid off-I dodged a bullet with my rich, but
well running, TR6.
