Gene,
Using a timing light, start with the 4* ATDC mark as an initial setting
at approx. 850rpm. Advance slightly in 2* increments, taking the car for
a spin after each change to determine a "trial and error" best position
for your car. Note the timing where your car runs best, with no or very
minor pinging when accelerating sharply from 30 to 50 mph in fourth
gear, and use that as your datum in the future.
