John,
I had three Fiat 124 Spyders over 25 years, the last of which was a 2-liter
which I bought brand new in 1979. The first two were the most fun, having
had 1438 cc engines which revved like crazy compared to the later 1800 and
2000cc engines. I grew tired of the 2-liter after nineteen years and just
had to get back to a British six, what with the sound and torque. One thing
that would have really got my attention would have been a Fiat (or Lancia,
same engine) with the same Lampreda design but with two more cylinders in an
inline-6 configuration. Can you imagine what a delight that would be? A
six-cylinder version of the 1438 would have been of 2157cc capacity, what a
sweet little screamer!
