Hey Al, ain't that some fun?? The same thing happened to me last
year about a mile from my house. On my way out for a nice relaxing ride
in the early morning, when I went around the only hairpin turn within
about 10 miles when the throttle decided to give me a thrill. I'm not
sure where the tach was at the time, but the trees were getting close,
and moving by rather quickly! I reached over and shut off the battery
switch I had mounted just under the dash. Good thing it was there, too,
because there's no way I was going to be able to reach the ignition
switch given the conditions. I really didn't want to just push in the
clutch and wind things into hell. Finally coasted to a stop, checked
under the hood, and wiggled things around a bit. When I started it back
up, everything was fine. I drove back home very cautiously and after a
more thorough check, found that one of the adjusting tabs on the
throttle lever was binding against the bulkhead in the engine bay.
Things were readjusted, along with a stiffer return spring just for the
heck of it. Also, it seemed like a good time to lubricate all the moving
parts.....everywhere..... on the entire car.(mini-shipwrights)
Have someone else operate the throttle from inside the car and you'll
find the linkage sticking somewhere in the engine bay.
  Good Luck!

Listers,
During a couple of lenghty drives in my 6 at a steady 65mph, I took my
foot of the pedal and not only did it not move, it kept accelerating. It
took a good jerk on the petal with my foot to release it back to normal.

When I came to a stop and proceeded to accelerate, my linkage seemed to
have a mind of its own and immediately took over and accelerated without
my foot on the petal. What do you think is going on? I believe I read
somewhere that our 6's has a history of this and for that, and other
reasons, has been classified as one of car history's "greatest lemons".
No offense, please. I need to get this dangerous problem resolved asap.
Any help out there?
