Let me say that I have never done a complete engine rebuild,
I have replaced a few heads on my 250s.
I would find it unlikely that the lifters would stick. The get a LOT
of oil and even if they did, I would think that they would just keep
the valves open until they started working again.
My theory is that a valve or rocker stuck and the pushrod(s) jumped
off of the adjuster ball. This would explain the rubbing on the head.
Just my guess and I hope it never happens to me.
