Maybe it's just me, but this testing stuff sounds like overkill. Based upon
the info provided, the leak is coming from either the valve cover (the
gasket or the holes for the studs) or the head gasket. Since oil generally
doesn't flow up hill, start from the top of the engine and work down.
If the top and upper sides of the valve cover are dry, then it is not the
studs. If the top part of the head is dry, then it is not the valve cover
gasket.
Since the serial number landing is oil coated, the leak must be from here
up. If the valve cover and head are dry, your leak is from the head gasket.
This is a well documented leak location and the suggestion to pop the head
and coat the new head gasket with Hylomar (around the oil galley only), is a
good one. (Ask me how I know).
Now if you're looking to buy new toys, disregard the above.
