I took my '74 TR6 that I recently wrecked to the local Safeco import car repair
specialist for an estimate. Luckily, the guy who owns the shop has a TR7 that
he is renovating, so I felt a little better about the local shop doing the
repairs.
The owner met me outside to survey the tragedy and told me that he didn't have
any parts or labor rates for the TR6. He said they would do whatever it took to
fix it and fix it right, including a full paint job.
I took the opportunity to go over with him all the sheet metal parts that I
felt needed to be ordered to fix it the way I want it fixed and he agreed with
my assessment. He asked me to come up with the list of parts that are
required. Talk about feeling like a kid in a candy store. I am trying to figure
a way to get a set of Mini-lites into the estimate without committing insurance
fraud, but so far I haven't figured that one out.
I do want the inner and outer fender and the wheel arch replaced on the right
side. I can't tell much about this in my car because of the under-coating
(which I will remove this winter when I paint door jams and inner fenders). It
appears that the inner fender and the wheel arch are spot-welded together and
that the wheel arch is also spot-welded to the firewall. I was hoping it all
bolted together.
If it is spot-welded, has anyone replaced these parts and if so, how difficult
is it? Thanks for your help.
