Jay,

I just set the hood in place (on the wedges and the centering pins) and
aligned the front edges and tightened it down.

Taking it off took three juggleing people because we did it with the hood
"up".

My two cents worth

Jay---I share the basic methods that you use, only by holding the hood
up with a combination of rubber coated hold-down straps, fastened to a
mechanical hoist. This keeps the hood at the proper tilt, and frees up
both hands while getting the bolts started. I use a dry marker pen
around the edges of the hood brackets before unbolting them, to aid in
the realignment. None of these methods came about thru any native
wisdom. I also went thru the frustration of trying to muscle these hoods
into place. I will credit my wife and her displeasure in trying to hold
up her end in all of this. She's the one who suggested the 'sling'
method. The weaker sex, indeed.
