My cap opened from side to side.
not sure if it was passenger side with the latch or the driver
side. but in any case, i made the mistake (ONCE) of opening
the boot with the gas lid open. luckly i stopped when i felt resistance.
i have seen gas caps aimed at a angle such that the latch was
at the 5 o'clock or the 7 o'clock position when looking from the rear of the
car. that way when it is opened, the lid flips toward the front and i
believe would allow clearance for the boot to be lifted.
not that anyone would really want to do that while filling the tank up... as
the nozzle might actually scratch the boot lid or maybe even now be the
thing that gets in the way of lifting the boot lid.
just a thought.
