You have already been given a lot of good advise
about why you should retain the roll bar.
I felt like a few on the list that just bolting
it to the shelf was not enough support. Mine is
welded to 1/8" plate that covers almost the
entire shelf and goes up the wheel wells. The
plate has extra feet welded to fit the grooves in
the shelf. Then there is a sister plate
underneath the shelf to add to the support. This
way the shelf is sandwiched and tied to the wheel
wells for the structural support.
I also tied the bolt that goes to the frame
though the shelf into the equation. I filled the
gap with a round block so that everything has
adequate support.
There is two more bolts to hold this together
then what holds the whole body to the frame.
This maybe over engineering but I hope to never
find out.
