George,
You don't have to give up redlines to get good tires. Get yourself a copy
of the catalogs from British Wire Wheel (800-732-9866) and Coker Tire
(800-251-6336). They are experts in tires for classic cars. They also have
websites.
I'll let some others comment on tire attributes, but I have Avon 185/15 H
rated tires on the 250 and think they are great.
