Listers,
I am in need of some ideas about how to re-install the valve springs on my six
without removing the head. The reason for this delemma is that I am installing
valve seals on the 6 and want to avoid pulling the head if possible. I recall
most of the advise on the list in the past about using compressed air or rope
in the cylinder to keep the valve from dropping into the cylinder and have
used both techniques with success in the spring removal process. Unfortunately
I do not recall any discussion about how the valve springs were reinstalled.
The problem I now have relates to the re-installation of the valve spring and
keepers after the installation of the valve seals. Specifically I apparently
need some type of tool to hook onto one of the rocker pedestal bolts or
somewhere else (unknown to me) so that I can compress the valve spring
sufficiently to install the keepers on the top. Since I recall, but obviously
did not pay enough attention to, past discussions of the use of this technique
I hope someone out there has mastered this technique and can assist me with
this problem. Obviously I could still take off the head and finish the job
that way but I'm going to hold out untill I consult my personal daatabase (this
list). Thanks in advance.
