Propellor axel length

Last year I installed a J-type OD. Working great.
Question, the "play" in the propellor axel, or main drive shaft, whatever, is
now very limited.
The axel, in the fitted position, is now just 1/5 of an inch (5 mm) from being
totally slided in (it used to be much more).
I wonder whether this is enough to compensate for the frame bending etc, and
does not make that under hard driving it becomes totally "compressed".
Any ideas? What play is normal?
