As Peter mentioned there are about five or six rubber plugs
in the trunk and gas tank area. Some of these plugs
surround the hoses for the fuel lines.
You did not mention what year your car was. If it is a
later model with a canister and the return line it is
possible that a hose has deteriorated by the fuel tank
giving you the 2 cycle smell.
Take the trunk panel off and see what you have got.
