I will be starting the rebuild on my engine soon and I
am starting to get everything that I want to do
planned. I have a '74 TR-6 with around 114,000 miles
on it, definitly time for a rebuild! I am familiar
with british engines in general, but I have never
worked with a TR6 engine before. I plan to do a
complete rebuild of the engine, bore out the cylinders
20 over, put a hotter cam in, shave some weight off of
the flywheel, put some pacesetter headers on (has
anyone used these, any other header recommendations?),
and install a stainless exhaust. I am interested in
putting dual 2" SU carbs on my 6 because I hear they
give more power and I am familiar with them as my dad
has some on his austin healey 3000. Any comments on
these? I know there are some quirks with tr6 engines
such as the thrustwashers, but that is all I know
about. Are there any other things I should know about
the 6 engine before rebuilding? I am looking for an
increase in power, but I would like the car to remain
very drivable. What other mods have you all done to
your cars? I am also looking to add overdrive to my
car. I know there are two types of overdrives for
TR-6's, but the only one I hear about is the J-type.
Is there a website explaining the difference between
the two? I am probably forgetting some things as I am
tired and ready to go to bed (have school in the
morning). Excuse my ignorance with TR-6's, this is my
first one and my first British roadster, hopefully not
the last. :) By the way, am I the youngest person on
this e-mail list with a TR-6? I am 16. Goodnight all.
Thanks,
Matt McKeever
