I think it's possible that my head has been shaved and that's why I'm
getting significantly higher compression values, at least that's the
wisdom of the list. I'll have it off this winter and take the
appropriate measurement to determine what was done.
As for your #6 reading, that's not too good. As you know, both the lower
and upper parts of your engine are sealed. The bottom is sealed by the
rings and the top is sealed by the valves and seats. Something is wrong
with one of those sections. As I'm sure you know, you can preliminarily
determine which it is by pouring oil into the suspect cylinder (enough
to cover the piston and spill down the sides) and rechecking the
compression. If the reading goes up, it's likely bad rings. If the
reading stays about the same, it's probably a faulty valve or seat.
