Geoff---Losing the Phillips screw allowed the oil that normally goes
down the bore of the rocker shaft to come out of the hole where this
screw should have been secured. Chances are good that more than one
rocker is scored, and the shaft is toast. It's easy enough to check by
removing the (6) pedestal bolts and slipping the shaft out of the
rockers. You can tell if the shaft itself is worn with a micrometer, by
comparing the areas where the rockers operate on the shaft, as opposed
to where they don't. If a rocker wobbles on a 'good' part of the shaft,
its bore may have been compromised by the lack of oil.
Securing this set screw with the proper screwdriver, along with a drop
or two of Locktite should keep it in place.
