I had the rad recored in my 1976 TR6 in 1998 when the engine was out for a
rebuild. It cost approx $200.00 CDN which is about $50.00 US when the
exchange is taken into account. The original rad has a double row of cooling
fins. The recored rad has 4 rows. It now operates much more efficiently. The
car has yet to overheat in stop & go conditions as it did previously. I feel
your money is better spent on a recore than a new replacement rad. One thing
I do suggest is to have a drain cock installed in the bottom part of the rad
housing. This will make it alot easier to drain the rad when you want to
replace the fluid.

Listii,

I started up my TR6 this last weekend to find that the radiator has sprung a
leak from the core. Bummer. I still have to remove the radiator (probably
this weekend), and don't yet know whether the vertical tube could be
soldered or not.

I did look into the cost of replacing the core, and the estimates vary
between $180 and $250. The cost of a new radiator from Moss is $249 retail.
A friend has said he has heard that the Moss radiator was a poor "Taiwanese"
version of the radiator, and recommends re-coring the original. I have a
1976 TR6 with the later radiator (the one with the top tube bending toward
the centerline of the car).

Does anyone have other thoughts, experience, and advice? Perhaps Peter
Arakalian (sp?) might be able to shed some light on this.

Thanks,
Eric
