<< For better or worse, our shrinking globe makes us all victims of this
senseless act of war that has shaken America. There is no question that
America's neighbours to the north, in particular, share in the grief,
shock, sorrow and anger that all of you to the south must feel. The US
came immediately to the aid of the City of Halifax when it was struck by an
horrendous explosion that killed or wounded thousands of our citizens
during World War I. That was the largest manmade explosion on earth 'til
then and it devastated our city. But the world has seen nothing to compare
to what happened on the 11th day of the 9th month of 2001. None of us will
be the same, ever again. It may be little comfort, but Americans should
know that the need to do something to help immediately overwhelmed our
city. Blood banks were filled to capacity with people needing to do
something - anything - to assist. Our airport was one of those which
accomodated many diverted flights. We have been doing our best to assist
some 7,000 people who have been forced to call Halifax their temporary
home. It is the least that we can do and I know we will do more.
Let us all pray that America recovers from this incredible tragedy. For if
America recovers, perhaps we can, too.

Thank you Rich for your thoughts and prayers. This is a horrible tragedy and
will never be forgotten, but America and Americans will recover, but we will
never forget our fallen brothers and sisters.
