Dimitri,

They are steel in natural color.  The original slides have a spring 
loaded lever that fits into a series of holes on the lower part of the 
rail.  The tip of this lever fitted into one of the holes is what keeps 
the seat in place.  It sounds like someone removed the lever on your seat 
tracks.

On a side note, I wish I could get my seats to slide easily.
