Charlie-Depends on the length of the trip, previous breakdowns, and level of
paranoia. It seems we always re-fight the last war-what broke in the past,
will probably break again in the future. I had a coil failure once, so I
always pack a spare. One of the bolts in accordion clamps that couple the
carb throttle shafts broke, so I pack a few extras. The small wire between
the coil and dist. broke, so I carry a length of wire with clips. Most
likely, these parts will not fail again, but it provides a sense of security
to carry spares. As you venture farther, and experience similar adventures,
you will develop your own list of parts that will be carried, but never used.
What other parts would I add? Maybe a u joint, front wheel bearing kit,
points&cond. mounted on a breaker plate if you are using an electronic ign.
system. Plugs to eliminate the heater control valve, clutch master cyl.
return spring (just because) and a plug to replace the oil pressure sending
unit and gauge. It just dawned on me that the trailers seen behind British
cars are probably full of spare parts.
