Tom,
check to make sure the shoulder of the needles are flush with the bottom of
the air piston(the part that gets clamped in). As long as the needles match
your .100" jets meaning they are .099" next to the shoulder of the needle.
They are actually a cake walk to replace, just loosen the set screw and
pull it out of the air piston, that is if it is not caught with a little
corrosion. if it is. try soaking in thin oil(automatic trans fluid Etc.)and
maybe a heat gun
.
I am going through with what is your similar situation, I am using HS-6's
from a TR-4a application(carb tags 209F,209R) In the beginning I had a
stock cam and was using TW coded needles but they seemed to be too lean when
the idle was setup and then too rich at idle when richened for driveability
I didn't like the stock cam very much anyway so I dropped in a mild one and
absolutely love it, but I changed the needles to SW coded needles since I
have replaced the cam and havn't retried the stock normal needles(TW coded
needles) now my problem seems to be that whenever I adjust for optimum idle
it seems fine but after I drive it my plugs end up indicating a rich
mixture, it is so ironic that this topic has surfaced because I was told
today by a chap in NY with a whole lot more SU experience than me that my
float bowls with the PN AUC 1310 were incorrect for the TR-6 application,
and that I would have a cronic rich Mixture, I am in no position to argue
that point, I just asked to have sent whatever I would need to accomplish
this conversion, I personally feel that I have needles that aren't
scheduling the fuel properly but we will see after I have installed the new
bowls and jets I am going to switch back to the stock TW coded needles
tommorrow and see what happens.
I have got to be getting on my neighbors nerves. I need some help also. I
am all ears to any and all advice
Thanks Brooks
