Frank,
If you've got a PI system on your six, the classic car magazines seem to
agree that European out-of-the-pump lead replacement fuel is not the best
option. I think one Triumph specialist in London found that some additive
in it actually attacks rubber seals in the system, which isn't a nice
thought when the whole system runs under quite high fuel pressure ! I guess
even if you have a carburettor car, its something to think about...
I know people who run standard unleaded with certain "approved" additives
(in the UK, four brands passed valve-seat recession tests, after being run
through a BMC A-series engine for the "equivalent" of I think 80k miles
-see
http://www.morrisminoroc.co.uk/articles/alltherest/FBHVC_Endorsements.htm -
which has some more info). They seem to work adequately unless you're
planning on driving hard. Like many owners, I went for this option until
the engine next had to come out, and then had valve seat inserts fitted.
Hope that helps !
