Fellow Packers -
This is a question concerning the rings that are on our six gauges. I have a
1974 TR6. Originally, this year '6 came with chrome rings. Five of my gauges
have black rings and one, the speedometer, has a chrome ring in not that
great a shape. I think this is the only original gauge on the car.
I would like them to all match, so I have the option of buying a used
black-ringed speedo or buying five used chrome-ring gauges. I should also
point out that the four small gauges are all from earlier year '6s and
apparently not the same as originally in the '74 model. In fact, all gauges
are Smyth's except the ammeter which is a Lucas brand.
Here are my questions:
1) The Vicky Brit (the only one of the Big Three, I think) sells the
chrome rings for the smaller four gauges. Will these fit the originally
black-ringed gauges?
2) Since my existing five black-ring gauges are in better shape than
the surviving chrome ring gauge, does anyone know where I can get a black
ring for my speedo and, if you do, will it fit my gauge?
3) Should I be concerned that the ammeter gauge is not Smyth's?
