No power on acceleration

Hello listers,

My 72 TR6 engine is stock. Some time ago, it started running poorly (no power
on acceleration). I noticed that the rear dashpot was not holding oil, so I
replaced the O-ring at the base of the air valve. Before removing the needle
from the
air valve I measured the distance from the tip of the needle to the base of
the
air valve with a dial caliper so that I could reinstall it in close to the
same position.
After installing the new O-ring and needle, the dashpot now holds oil, but I
still
have the same problem: on moderate to heavy acceleration the car hesitates and
sputters. If I pull the choke all the way out (and hold it there) when
accelerating it runs fine. The diaphrams on both carbs look OK, no tears or
holes. I have fiddled
somewhat with the needle mixture adjustment but that hasn't helped.

Should I check my temperature compensators or by-pass valves?

Any help would be appreciated!
