Help again!
Yesterday I wrote asking how to remove the oil seals in the 1974 TR6 as I
couldn't get the driving flange off the shaft. I got what seemed to be
great suggestions. Take the oil seal housing and inner axle shaft out then
remove the housing from the rear. I tried this. The oil seal housing and
axle came out easily with the axle shaft bearing from the . I put my puller
on the housing and tightened down. The bearing and housing started coming
off but then after a short movement the bearing hit a slight ridge on the
axle shaft just before the splines start. This is ridge is part of the
design of the shaft so it doesn't appear the bearing can be taken off from
the rear. Surely there is a way to replace just the oil seals without
replacing everything new and starting from scratch. It doesn't make since
to me that the driving flange has to be pressed on and off the axle shaft to
get to the oil seal. I do plan to get a TR6 factory workshop manual but I
don't have one yet. Does it tell how this task should be done?
Thanks,
Mike H
