I am considering replacing my worn main and rod bearings while I have the
sump off for thrust washer replacement; however, I have received two
valued opinions which differ about doing this with the engine/crank still
in the car. I know the replacement can physically be performed but I am
warned that I risk engine seizure using new bearings on an unturned crank.
I can't measure the crank journals but I do see and feel a sort of
unpolished band on the journal corresponding to the bearing oil
passageway. I am relatively sure the crank has never been turned and the
bearings are Vendervell standard size. What are Listers' experiences with
this procedure - success or nasty failure?
