What I have found that works well is a pair of
channel locks. This way you can adjust the tension
that you put on the fuel line from the fuel pump.
If you are sure that the gas has very little
contaminants in it start the engine till it runs out
of gas in the carbs. This will eliminate your line
pressure and lower your spillage from the lines.
This trick can also be used at the tank if you want
to replace the lines around the fuel pump.
