Sylva Register

I received this press release via e-mail and we agreed to feature it as part of my British specialty car presentation.

Background Information
In 1995 Sylva owners were putting pressure on Mac Allardyce, the owner/builder of a Sylva Fury and Editor/Social Secretary of the highly successful Kent Kit Car Club, to organise something for the single marque of Jeremy Phillips designed cars. At that time the then current Sylva Register seemed to have ceased being. Mac reluctantly agreed but only to organise locally and in the Spring of 1996 circulated a letter to some of the owners he knew of in the south east of England and the S E S/F R was born.
Unable to put two magazines together, Mac passed the editorship of the KKCCs Grin Factor on and produced The Dwindling Dot, which is similar in style but much more technical than the jokey Grin Factor. This was sent to the twenty or so members locally. News began to spread.
The trip to the 24hr race at Le Mans featured in the 2nd issue and the existence of a Sylva Group in the South East soon became known to owners all over the UK. This was principally due to references made in the major national magazines. Consequently, enquires began to flood in from all over the country.
The notion of a local group was fine but the number of people asking to register, despite the geographical problems, soon meant that a change was required. The Sylva Sportscar Register was then created by Mac Allardyce early this year and the number of persons registering has since soared
At the time of this release there are well over 100 vehicles registered and The Dwindling Dot is estimated to have a readership of over 500.

    Aims of the register
  • To enable owners to contact each other and exchange information.
  • To produce a contact list available to members only. This list will contain names, telephone contact numbers and towns of residence only.
  • To keep a detailed database of members and their vehicles. This Database is subject to Data Protection and the information available only on written demand to bona-fide members.
  • To act as user group for liaison with the Manufacturers and Insurance Companies
  • To publish a register Magazine quarterly. This will contain news, views and future events and will rely heavily on member's input.
  • The Secretary will act as co-ordinator for regional groups who are encouraged to form their own clubs.
The Register is NOT a club; there is no constitution and no committee although participants are referred to as 'Members'.
