(Edited version of their press releases).
Mayflower is a big industrial corporation and its Automotive Division is one
of the secret weapon of the British car industry.
Two member companies opf Mayflower Automotive Division presented their
products in Frankfurt: Motor Panels and International Automotive Design (IAD).
IAD is responsible for the product development and is capable of taking a
project from a 'clean sheet of paper' through to a fully engineered and tested
design ready for production. The highyl confidential nature of this work means
that IAD projects are rarerly reported on.
As a demonstration of its full service expertise, the Group is exhibited an
example of the the new MGF sports car, in which Mayflower has invested over
20 million pounds.
MGF body structure
Motor Panels was responsible for the body engineering and turning the design
concept into a production reality, whils developing the body assembly
systems, processes and facilities.
In production terms, Motor Panels presses and assembles the fully finished
body shells before shipment to Rover for paint, trim and final assembly.
MGF on the assembly line
The second example of its experitse is in the range materials used, where
Mayflower will exhibit class A aluminium body panels for the popular Land
Rover Discovery - a prgramme for which Motor Panels was responsible for the
body engineering, prototype and tooling programmes. The company manufactures
the body panels on a just-in-time basis to Land Rover.
