After a few years of advanced research into the field of Z E Vs
(Zero Emission Vehicles), Bertone is presenting a "classic".
Compared with a few years ago, the scenario of the auto world
seems to have revolutionized. A new breeze of optimism is
blowing. Production is growing again. Niche markets are
returning. This is even more marked at Italian level in the
FIAT/ALFA/LANCIA Group.
The presentation of the new Lancia Kappa Saloon particularly
struck Bertone. A highly innovative 5-cylinder engine has pushed
the designer's fantasy to dream up a model in keeping with the
top-rate mechanical/road features of the saloon.
This is how the BERTONE KAYAK was created.
During its history Bertone has created countless innovative and
advanced coupes with an extremely sporty design. Suffice it to
recall the STRATOS, also made by LANCIA which was so surprising
and revolutionary that at the time, even Lancia rejected the
product. With the KAYAK Bertone has set out a different theme.
With all the limits of comparison we could say that it is the
Aurelia B20 of the year 2000. The KAYAK's design is sportive
though also elegant and distinctive. The main idea behind the
project is... moderation without oddities and exasperations.
Intendedly a coupé linked to Lancia's tradition.
Certain "guideline and classic" features of the brand and product
have been enhanced. Strong muscle and characterization of the
Lancia grille which dominates the entire front.
At a time in which all car manufacturers are attempting to bring
forward products with a clearly recognizable "face", a company,
like Lancia, that already has a precise identity, can maintain
its leadership evolving the theme of the grille until it becomes
an inseparable element of the front architecture.
As far as the product is concerned the proportions have been
intendedly chose against the current trend which involves compact
fronts ad relatively high tail ends. KAYAK explores the classical
proportions of coup‚s of past times in a modern key, heavily
emphasizing the bonnet and the styling of the sides which flows
downwards towards the rear.
The road prototype will be completed by May.
Dimensions: length 4.680 mm, height 1.360 mm, width 1.860 mm,
wheelbase 2.700 mm
The Bertone Stand also displayed the two fastest clean (ZEV)
vehicles in the world on the hour (car-bike):
BERTONE Z.E.R.and the Colnago bike.
