Report

Dave Sisson's (dsisson@alfa-necrophylia.com) report, who provided all the pictures and the core information. All the credits belongs to him.

The Hillsborough concours was QUITE pleasant. Among the cars I was especially happy to see were a stunning and, 'til now unknown to me, 32 Ballot 8cyl roadster. This was obviously the last of that fine line of racing cars, and this was a road-going car, barely distinguishable from it's earlier all racing antecedants. A stunning car at it's first Show. Dick D'Elia's brother was showing a newly restored Daytona Spider which was a cost no object effort. The owner had paid (HONESTLY!!!!) $100,000. for the PAINT JOB alone!!!! Well it was a nice car, but I get more excited about rarer and older cars of even more character. Wayne Weathers, jr showed his late father's '14 Oldsmobile Great Olds (Big and fine like a Pierce.) There were a couple stunning Franklins and a whole string of Jaguars, including Bob Cole's prototype 3.5 litre ss100 coupe. One of the real highlights of the show was a "late" Touring Pegaso Coupe. It doesn't have the sculpted rear end treatment of the earlier body, but, unfortunately, it does have a wrap around windshield which conflicts with the design. There was a pretty good Muntz Jet, Bev Fierra's Tucker, a Lincoln Continental. Bob Cole also was showing his newly restorred LG 45 Lagonda. Stunning. Neil Kirkham was showing his '34 Rolls Phantom II Park Ward short wheelbase Sedan. (one of 6) He and his wife Lillian, envited me to ride with them across the reviewing stand. It's a very pleasant car. He also owns The P-II towncar that was immortalized in the movie, "The Yellow Rolls Royce", which currently apart. Dick DeLuna was showing his 1947 DeSoto Skyview Taxi. I haven't seen one of those since 1953. Most were destroyed. Those that weren't were sold to South America. Quite a rarity! I'm thrilled.
