Boxster
Yes, it's true! Porsche finally released the first official pictures about
the Boxster.
The Boxster is the first-all new Porsche since the 1977 924.
Standard production will start in early
summer 1996, the launch will be in September 1996. First show appearance:
October, Paris.
Only the name and the headlight assemblies and the cooling ducts for the
mid-mounted engine survived from the prototype, first shown at Detroit, 1993.
The production version is longer than the concept car at about 4220 mm.
The Boxster is powered by a 2.5-liter 6-cylinder 150 kW (204 bhp)
horizontally-opposed water-cooled unit.
Porsche is desperately trying to avoid the competition with the Z3 and
the SLK hence the 6-cyl. engine, the larger size etc.
An advantage of the mid-engine arrangment is the availablity of two
luggage compartments, one at the front and one at the rear of the car. These
compartments have a capacity of 260 litres (9.1 cu ft).
Porsche engineers have worked hard to keep the Boxster's weight down to
1100 kg.
German price is: DM 76500.
Porsche showed how their dashboards are made. Here's the man who assembled
dashboards in front of visitors.
